Comprehensive Hearing Tests for Adults and Children

Why a Hearing Assessment Matters

Our ears and hearing are deeply connected—when one is affected, the other often is too.We provide comprehensive diagnostic hearing assessments for adults and children aged 4½ years and older. A hearing assessment not only measures the degree and type of hearing loss but also helps identify where the problem originates within the ear, guiding the most appropriate treatment or management options.

The ear is made up of three main parts:

  • Outer Ear: Collects sound and directs it to the eardrum.
  • Middle Ear: Amplifies and transmits sound to the inner ear.
  • Inner Ear: Converts sound into signals for the brain and contains the balance system.

Because these parts work together, symptoms such as hearing loss, ear fullness, or tinnitus can originate from different areas of the ear. A comprehensive assessment helps identify the location and severity of the problem.

Understanding the source of a hearing problem allows us to provide personalised advice and recommend the most appropriate management. For example, hearing loss caused by a middle ear condition may be medically treatable, while hearing loss resulting from inner ear damage is often best managed with hearing aids.

Sudden Hearing Loss

Sudden hearing loss is a rapid decrease in hearing that occurs within 72 hours or less without an obvious cause . It is often noticed upon waking and most commonly affects one ear. Associated symptoms may include tinnitus, a feeling of ear fullness, dizziness, or balance problems.

Sudden hearing loss should be treated as a medical emergency. Early assessment and treatment are critical to maximise the chance of recovery.

If you suspect you are experiencing sudden hearing loss, contact In2 Hearing as soon as possible. We prioritise urgent appointments to facilitate timely assessment and provide information to support prompt medical review and treatment.
